Crikey, this is a tough one! Who doesn’t love getting gifts in general? How can I choose the best one? What will the people who’ve given me gifts in the past think when they read this and see that they’ve not made the cut? Man, the pressure. I’ve been really lucky so far in the receiving department, having many generous people around me. Coincidence? Maybe.
My brother gave me a stereo. The first one I ever had, thanks bro! Two different friends have given me massage gift certificates, the only times I’ve indulged in such a luxury. My Dad gave me a beautiful black acoustic/electric guitar which is, sadly, sitting in my mother’s basement in another country. Sorry Pop, I’ll have it with me soon. My in-laws gave us a 52 inch flat screen for no apparent reason. Blew my mind and although I can see more pores and imperfections than I ever really wanted to, I love it. My grandma sends me a $100 every Christmas. Where my widowed grandmother of more than 80 comes up with an extra $100 for her granddaughter who never calls, I have no idea but I always feel terrible spending it. I am eternally grateful for my little girl but who do I thank for her? Surly not my husband because, let’s face it, at the moment of conception it was more like a gift from me to him. You’re welcome Babe.
After careful thought, I have to say that Life is the ultimate gift I’ve been given. Without it, well, where would you be? Not reading this, that’s for sure. Probably on some other blog thinking to yourself “what I REALLY need is a little kickwest in my life”. Seriously though, thanks Mom, you’re a fantastic woman so put down whatever you’re doing, sit and enjoy yourself a minute. The to-do list will be there when you get back up. Dad, I miss you more than you can imagine and I think of you every single day. Thank you, both of you, for giving me the light.
